REBUILT STARTERS FOR
ALLIS CHALMERS TRACTORS
Things to check before replacing your starter.
1.) Are your battery cables heavy enough? 6 Volt starters require twice the
amperage as 12 V starters. Battery cables used for 6V electrical systems need to
be twice the size as the cables used on 12V systems. Automotive style battery
cables do not work properly on 6V farm tractors.
2.) Have you checked your starter switch / solenoid. Many times the contacts
inside the starter switch become pitted or corroded causing slow starter
operation.
3.) Is your charging system working properly? A bad
generator, regulator, or
faulty wiring can cause your charging system not to work. Your starter will not
work properly if the battery is not fully charged.
4.) Is your battery in good condition. A battery can appear to be fully charged
but short out under a load. While cranking a battery's voltage should not drop
below 75%.
