There is a new scam that has come to our attention. The scam is similar to the Nigerian / Africa scam that we are all to familiar. The scammers are now pretending to be hearing impaired. They use a telephone relay service to ask questions about farm tractor parts, and construction equipment parts. They inquire about big ticket items such as injector pumps or many cases of smaller items such as oil and fuel filters. All of the items that they request quotes for are large machinery costing hundreds of thousands of dollars If a company is large enough to need all of these pats, they must have someone there who can use the telephone.

From here the scam is similar to the Nigerian scam that we are used to. The buyer uses a stolen card # or fake bank check to pay for the items plus an additional fee to give to the shipper to cover costs. After the shipper is gone with the product and extra shipping money you find out than the credit card is stolen or the bank check is a forgery.

The relay company claiming to help the deaf is Purple Language services.
The customer service rep at Purple Language services Stated that their privacy policy did not allow them to record, write down, or report suspicious phone calls. They will not ban suspicious callers from future relay calls,

Purple language services admits that many (if not most of their relay calls are fraudulent) and not deaf persons.

A representative Purple Language services has contacted us with fraudulent relay calls at least twice in the past week When I asked “I s this really a call from a deaf person or is this a scam: the operator responds” This is really a call from a deaf person.
